WHERE THE DOURO INSPIRES FORM

A dark, net-like abstract sculpture rests on a glossy blue surface, with a large orange circle in the background against a neutral wall.

An artwork shaped by the river at The Rebello

The Rebello welcomes a new contemporary artwork by visual artist Filipe Fangueiro, created exclusively for our space and its riverside setting. His work spans collaborations with fashion houses such as Loro Piana, Fendi and Gucci, alongside his role as co-founder of Dsection magazine. Filipe brings a practice where context, space and expression are intertwined.

Inspired by the river  that runs alongside us, woven into The Rebello’s fabric and its daily views, the artwork draws from the Douro as origin, passage and living memory. Rooted in time and contradiction, the work explores opposing forces. Fast and slow. Vast and intimate. Violent and gentle. A continuous line that goes and returns, carrying past and future into the present.

Installed in the lobby, this piece becomes part of everyday life at The Rebello, experienced in passing, revisited over time, and understood differently with each encounter.

A soundtrack accompanies it. Curated by the artist, Down the River traces the same rhythm, movement and contrasts found within the work.

Take a moment to pause, look closer and let it flow.
